their voice.

In-school workshops that combine art-making with guided conversation to build confidence, encourage self-expression, and remind children that their voice matters.

WHAT ADVOCACY CRAFT IS

A practice you can bring into any classroom.

Advocacy Craft is a practice. We teach young people the craft of using their voice: the small skill of knowing what you feel, what you need, and how to say it out loud.

Our in-school workshops combine art-making with guided conversation, designed to give children the confidence to learn the power of advocacy and how to advocate for themselves from a young age. Every session is led by our founder, Megan Marsiglio.

THE SIGNATURE EXERCISE

The Voice Portrait

Every Advocacy Craft session centres on our signature exercise. Using paint, mirrors, and embellishments, children create a self-portrait that captures who they are AND what their voice looks like.

The art is the vehicle. The advocacy is the outcome.

OUR FOUNDATIONAL WORKSHOP

BRAVE

75-90 minutes

For SK through Grade 3

The first practice in speaking up.

BRAVE is a 75–90 minute in-school workshop for children ages 5 to 8. Through circle time, a read-aloud, feelings exploration, and Voice Portrait creation, children practice the earliest language of advocacy, naming what they feel, asking for what they need, and learning that their voice belongs in the room.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Meet Megan

Advocacy Craft was founded by Megan Marsiglio, a mom, artist, patient advocate, and patient engagement strategist with more than 15 years of experience helping people use their voice inside the health care system.

She is also the co-founder of Unum Co., a Toronto-based patient strategy studio. Advocacy Craft was built on the belief that self-advocacy is a skill, and skills are learned best when they are practiced—early, often, and through making.
